Reading are champions two years running
With other results going their way Reading knew that a 3-0 win at home against
Brentwood would ensure a second successive National Volleyball League
Championship & promotion to National Division 1 for next season. Brentwood’s
task was made all the harder with two of their senior players serving
suspensions for this away game at Reading. Reading had won the previous fixture
in Brentwood 3-0 last October.
Reading imposed their game on Brentwood early using both the centre & backcourt
utility hit well to keep the score board moving in their favour & closed out Set
one 25-16.

The second set proved to be a demonstration of how to turn defence into attack.
In transition Brentwood felt they had won key points only for Reading’s dominant
defence to pick off Brentwood on the counter. A nine point service run by the
man of the match Balagiannis broke the away side & they slumped to a 25-5
defeat, an unprecedented margin in National League.
Reading continued to apply pressure & pulled out every attacking combination
possible to close out the third set 25-19. Brentwood just couldn’t defend the
crossover combinations between Readings Siwek & Jones, which delivered the
National Volleyball League 2 Championship in some style.
Members of the university ladies team were also there to cheer on the team,
following their recent appearance in the National Universities Trophy Final,
which marked a successful season for club as a whole.
